Contests..../Weekly prompts

I was thinking about ways for people to post more modern AU avatar fics or art. And I came up with this idea; What if we had weekly or bi-weekly prompts? Maybe even contests...?
What do you guys think?
And if you have any ideas for the prompts let me know.
I also thought it would be pretty cool if for one of the contest or prompt's we could use episode's aka 'the beach' and try to take the theme or just the title and AU it.

Your thought?

I'm down with all of those suggestions! I'd love to see more going on here.

I'm actually about to take off for a while on vacation, so if all you hear from me is radio silence assume that I'm still interested.

I've seen really successful "fic-a-thons" on other communities, so that might be an idea too.

Yes, I would too! :D

Okay, have fun on the vacation! :D

Fic-a-thons, so everyone just posts fic after fic?

Hey there! (I'm back!)

I saw the fic-a-thon thing done on another comm, I forget where though. Basically, one person posted a short fic or drabble and at the end of the story they wrote a list of three prompts. The first person to read it had to pick one of the three prompts and comment by writing a story of their own with three new prompts at the end.

Basically what they ended up with was a long thread of short stories and drabbles, one after the other.

I haven't actually participated in one of these myself but I thought it looked cool :) Just an idea though.

Sounds really great.
I was thinking, when should we start?

Whoops. I have no excuse for taking so long to get back to you.

Maybe we should start with weekly/bi-weekly prompts and see how much of a reaction we can generate with that? I've just been thinking that we'll need a lot of man-power to get any thing "athon"-like going.

Any time is good, really. Mondays would probably be the easiest to keep track of. I think the main thing is to get started! :P

As far as prompt ideas go, I usually turn to my deck of tarot cards when I'm looking for inspiration.

Or we could do AU themed prompts, like locations in the real world, such as an office building, Notre Dame, The Whitehouse... any place really. You could also go with modern, everyday objects like cellphones and binder paper, just things you would find in the twenty-first century.

Okay great! I'll post one.

We'd need someone to make banners, if it was a contest, or perhaps icons. I like the idea of icons. And no, it can't be me. I have no artistic talent whatsoever.

It should be bi-weekly, I think, to give people time.

Okay, well, I'm not that keen on 1. making banners and 2, i'm not sure why we'd need them. But it sounds cool! :D
I know susancaspian has weekly prompts and they don't have banners or icons so if we don't have someone to do that I still think we could make it work.

Yes, definitely bi-weekly.

I'm trying to get a list of promt's going. Do you have any you want to add?

Okay, well scratch the icons/banners then. Just a thought.

I'm thinking that we should have the usual prompts--You know, words, phrases, poems--and we could also branch out quite a bit, since we're an AU community. An idea I rather like, although it would take a lot of effort out of everybody, is the use of years as prompts. Or decades, maybe. One prompt is for fics set in the 1920s. Another is for fics set during the High Renaissance. Also, crossover prompts, future-fics, sci-fi...Et cetera.

I didn't say I didn't want icons or banners, I just didn't know what it was for....

Oh. In some other contest communities, they have icons or banners made for the winners.

Thanks. =)

That is pretty cool! I wish I 1) had time, 2) knew how to do that.

No problem.
So when do you think we should start posting bi-weekly prompts? Maybe Aug1st?
